Dubai: India’s spin attack restricts Pakistan to lowest T20I total
Pakistan’s Batting Collapse in Dubai
In a recent Women’s Asia Cup 2026 clash in Dubai, Pakistan experienced a significant batting collapse against India, resulting in their lowest-ever total in T20I cricket. After choosing to bat first, Pakistan was bowled out for just 55 runs. The innings saw a dramatic turn as India’s bowlers took control, leading to Pakistan losing six wickets for only eight runs after an initial score of 27 without loss.
This total of 55 all out is now Pakistan’s lowest in Women’s T20Is. It also marks the fifth-lowest total conceded by India in a Women’s T20I match. Only two of Pakistan’s openers managed to reach double figures: Muneeba Ali scored 13 runs off 15 balls, and Shawaal Zulfiqar contributed 14 runs from 14 deliveries.
Key Performances from Indian Bowlers
The collapse was initiated by Sree Charani and Prema Rawat. Muneeba Ali had survived some early challenges before Shafali Verma eventually dismissed her. Sree Charani then claimed two wickets in the final over of the powerplay, transforming Pakistan’s promising start into a full-blown collapse. The team went from 27/0 to 35/6, as India’s spinners consistently troubled the batting line-up.
Charani concluded with figures of 3/7, while Prema Rawat also secured three wickets for just nine runs. Deepti Sharma added 2/5, and Shafali Verma took one wicket. The Indian bowling attack prevented Pakistan from forming any substantial partnerships after the initial stand, leading to the innings being wrapped up in 18.1 overs.

Charani attributed her success to a straightforward approach, stating that coaches encourage spinners to bowl to their strengths and impart more revs on the ball. She also mentioned working on the consistency of her arm ball and improving the accuracy of her yorkers.
Historical Context and Team Form
This performance highlighted India’s confidence in their bowling attack. India had already secured a spot in the semi-finals by winning their first two matches against Thailand and Hong Kong. Pakistan had entered this game after a victory against Thailand.
The match was significant for Pakistan as it was their 200th T20I. However, the outcome resulted in a record they might prefer to forget. Pakistan’s previous lowest all-out total in the format was 56 against New Zealand in Dubai. Other low totals for Pakistan include 60 against England in Taunton in 2009, 63 against India in Guangzhou in 2012, and 65 against the West Indies in St Andrew’s in 2011.
For India, this dominant victory added another chapter to their recent record against Pakistan. India had won nine of their previous 10 T20I encounters, with their only defeat in that period occurring in the 2022 Asia Cup. The contest also marked Harmanpreet Kaur’s 150th match as a T20I captain, making her the first cricketer to reach this landmark.
Ahead of the game, India’s openers, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, were in strong form. Mandhana had achieved a century against Hong Kong, setting a warning for other teams. The pitches in Dubai have been challenging for batters, often requiring about 10 balls to assess the surface’s pace before planning an innings.
Pakistan faces the need for significant improvement in their batting to compete effectively with India. Their batting department’s shortcomings have been a persistent issue. Even in their previous game against Thailand, Pakistan faced pressure in the powerplay, losing three wickets, though they managed to defend a total of 119 runs against a less-established side. The team’s reliance on opener Muneeba Ali and bowling all-rounder Fatima Sana, who is also the captain, highlights areas for potential change if Pakistan aims to challenge their rivals.
The match took place at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday.
